Megumi Fujii During the Quake

The devastation of the earthquake and tsunami is still being felt in Japan. Local fighters Megumi Fujii, Roxanne Modafferi, Hitomi Akano, and American fighter Jessica Aguilar (who was there for the JEWELS MMA card Friday night, which was cancelled) are all okay. You can hear Modafferi, Fujii, and Aguilar's accounts of the earthquake here.

Julie Kedzie (15-8) has been a mainstay in Women's MMA since 2004. She grew up in Indiana where she learned her base in Tae Kwon Do and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Kedzie now lives in New Mexico where she is employed as the celebrated MMA coach, Greg Jackson's assistant and she is proud to call herself a member of his team. She's fought the who's who of  female fighters and she is taking on Kaitlin Young on April 9th in Albuquerque New Mexico next. I caught up with this busy lady in the midst of her assisting duties, training and being generally an awesome person to discuss her job, interests and a bit about her experience on Ultimate Woman Challenge reality show.

LN: How did you get your start in MMA?

Kedzie: I have been involved in the martial arts since I was four or five years old, but my interest in MMA peaked after seeing the original Hook N Shoot Revolution DVD, featuring Debi Purcell. When I watched it, something in me said "I wanna DO that" and I made my debut on a Hook n Shoot card in 2004.
