It wasn’t the most entertaining match, but the five rounds for the Jackson’s MMA women’s title was about respect, and both fighters had plenty of it for each other. At Jackson’s MMA Series 4 at the Hard Rock Casino in Albuquerque, NM, Julie Kedzie defeated Kaitlin Young via unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46) to become the first Jackson’s MMA Women’s champion.

It was a long feeling out process throughout the fight, with both competitors giving short flurries of strikes and pummeling against the fence. It wasn’t until the fifth when we saw Julie Kedzie take Young down; but Young was actively working submissions on her back. The judges gave the unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46) to Kedzie.

On Friday night, April 15th, 2011, Evolution Combat Sports Championship will offer WMMA fans an all-female pro card with top-level mixed martial artists from New Mexico, Texas, and California, at the Clovis Civic Center in Clovis, New Mexico. In the main event, Heather “Hurricane” Clark will face Jennifer “Superstar” Scott.

Per Sal Mora, Heather “Hurricane” Clark (2-1) is a heavy handed mixed martial arts fighter who trains with Greg Jackson’s camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

"Clark, who is coming off of an impressive 10 second KO victory over April Coutino, plans to hand Scott the first loss of her MMA career. Clark started mixed martial arts training at the age of 8 with her father, who is an honorary black belt in Ukidokan Karate and a brown belt in Shotokan. As a former Pro hockey player and amateur boxer, Clark is no stranger to fierce competition. She has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the mixed martial arts arena.

 

Clark’s opponent, Jennifer “Superstar” Scott, trains out of the 4oz training center in Houston, Texas. Scott has three professional MMA fights under her belt, with a record of 2-0 and one No Contest. The former Hawaiian Tropics bikini model fared well in the boxing arena and is now making waves in the sport of MMA. The competitive “Superstar” competed at amateur boxing tournaments such as Ringside and Golden Gloves prior to turning pro. She has since transitioned into MMA, where her boxing prowess and additional training have rendered her undefeated thus far. Scott plans to add another win to her pristine record on April 15th."

You may recall that recently, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey opted to drop out of the Tuff-N-Uff tournament in order to make her professional debut, causing quite a stir in the WMMA community. Looks like it was a good move on her part, as according to reports, she won her first professional fight:

One of MMA’s top female prospects, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, needed just 25 seconds to win her pro debut Sunday night at King of the Cage: “Turning Point” in Tarzana, California. The Olympic judo bronze medallist submitted highly-touted Brazilian Ediane “India” Gomes with a first-round armbar.

Rousey’s victory, her first as a pro and fourth overall, marked the third time that she has submitted an opponent in less than 30 seconds. Her longest bout to date, a 57-second matchup with Autumn Richardson in November, also ended with an armbar. Rousey’s combined fight time is just 2:09.
